ANGEL

MASSIVE ATTACK

If somebody asked me what is my favorite Massive Attack album, I would say without any hesitation "Mezzanine". "Blue Lines" and "Protection" have always stolen "Mezzanine"'s thunder but this album is truly a remarkable piece of work. It's dark and creepy in a perfectly subtle way.

I felt a huge urge this last couple of weeks to listen to this album again. Maybe it's because I am (finally) listening to the new Portishead album and I started to reminisce about the days I was listening frantically to these bands.

I love all four singles that came out of this album: "Risingson", "Teardrop", "Angel" and "Inertia Creeps". But, "Angel" is my favorite one.

Each time I listen to this song I cannot believe how perfect it is. PERFECT. Apart from it probably being one of the best album opening tracks ever, it's also possibly one of the most haunting songs ever written:

ANGEL

MASSIVE ATTACK -"Angel"

Could things get any darker than this? Yes, they can.. Killer remix:

MASSIVE ATTACK -"Angel"(Blur Remix)

And I'll ask, again: Could things get any darker than this? Well, Guy Richie used the song in his 2000 movie "Snatch" in a scene about murder, pain and suffering.. And it's so fitting, it's difficult to say if the song highlights the scene or if it's the scene that highlights the song. In any case, this is a cinematic moment worth watching again and again and again...
